How this plumber referral service works, step by step
You send the form.
Name, town, phone, and what is wrong.
A person reads it.
Not a bot. If the description is thin, we come back with a question.
We match it to a plumber.
The match is on the work and on the town. A sewer line in Waukegan does not go to someone who only installs faucets. If we cannot place it, we say so.
They contact you.
They quote, schedule, and do the work. Their license, their insurance, their price.
An Illinois plumber's license
We only pass requests to plumbers licensed in Illinois. State law requires it, and two documents sit behind that.
Illinois licenses plumbers under the Plumbing License Law, 225 ILCS 320, which says plumbing must be planned and carried out by a licensed plumber. The Illinois Department of Public Health, IDPH for short, runs the program. A license belongs to a person, not a company.
A plumbing contractor registration
The firm needs a second document, a State of Illinois Plumbing Contractor Registration, also from IDPH. The license covers the person who shows up. The registration covers the business that sends them.
How you can check
Ask for the license number. Any plumber who holds one will give it to you, and so will a firm with a current registration.
Then check it yourself on the state's plumbing license verification page, run by IDPH. Its plumbing program page explains what the license covers.
Your village is a second check. Most Lake County villages want copies of both before issuing a plumbing permit. Libertyville and Gurnee ask by name.
What this costs you, and how the site is paid
Nothing, on your side. There is no fee to send a request and no fee to be matched. The only money you pay is what you agree on with the plumber.
No plumbing company is attached to this site yet. When one is, it may pay us for the introduction. That money comes from the plumber, never from you, and it does not change your price.
What we do not do
We do not send anyone to your house. We do not hold a plumbing license. We do not quote, supervise, or warrant the work. All of that sits with the plumber.
We do not sell or rent your details to marketers, data brokers, or lead lists, and we do not send one request out for several companies to bid on. Your details go to the plumber who receives your request. The privacy policy says exactly who receives what.
If we cannot place your request
Some days no licensed plumber is free for your job or your town. When that happens we tell you, rather than leave you waiting on a call that is not coming. If it is urgent, do not wait on us. Call a local licensed plumber directly, or 911 if there is danger.
What people ask about plumbers in Illinois
How much does a plumber cost in Illinois?
There is no single number, and this site does not quote. A repair costs less than a replacement, and a pipe you can reach costs less than one behind drywall or under a slab. Work needing a permit and an inspection costs more. Ask for a written price first.
What is the difference between a certified plumber and a licensed plumber?
In Illinois the word that counts is licensed. The state licenses plumbers under 225 ILCS 320, and IDPH issues it. Certified is not a state title, so a certificate from a manufacturer or trade group is a different thing. Ask for the license.
Is it illegal to do plumbing without a license in Illinois?
As a rule, yes. 225 ILCS 320 says plumbing must be planned and done by a licensed plumber. Section 3(2) makes one exception, for an owner working on the single family home they live in. That work must still meet the Illinois State Plumbing Code, stay open to inspection, and use only licensed help.
