If you are looking for a plumber in Grayslake, most jobs can wait a week. One cannot. The village runs a Lead Service Assistance Program that splits the cost of replacing a private lead water service line fifty fifty, up to $4,500 from the village. That program is funded through December 31, 2026.
From 2027 the village begins mandatory replacement of the private lead lines that are left, phased over 15 years. An owner can opt out with an IEPA form. An owner who does neither pays the full cost on the water bill, and the village picks when the work happens.
Those were the published terms as of September 2026. Check them with the village, because funding is first come, first served.
